When there are brake noises, it can vary from a clinking, to grinding, to even a thud noise. Sometimes the brakes will make a rattle sound as you apply them. This is mostly from the brake pads if they are wearing. If it happens when the brake pedal is applied, make sure to schedule an appointment with us. A constant rattle or clinking noise could be a sign of a more serious problem that should be inspected as soon as possible.
Grinding brake noises
Another common noise from the brakes is a grinding noise. As the brake pads start to wear, then they will start to wear against the brake rotors. It could also mean the brake rotor is in contact and wearing against the caliper. If you ignore the grinding noise, it will only become worse and need a costly repair. When it is the brake rotors, the noise may only occur when the brakes are applied. If the noise happens constantly, then a piece of gravel or small stone could be stuck in the caliper. You can try to get the object free by moving the vehicle forward and backwards a few times. If the noise still continues, schedule a brake service with us.
Brake Pedal issues
The brakes can also start to show signs of an issue based on how the pedal reacts. If the brake pedal is too hard or too soft, then the brakes are not responding as they otherwise should. When this happens, make sure to check the brake fluid in the vehicle. Sometimes it may be low, and the result is poorly responding brakes. You will want to bring the vehicle in, so we can inspect the brake system. We can also check the fluid, hoses, and overall condition of the entire brakes.
