Driving in the Spring

When you drive on the roads this spring, be aware of potholes that might be forming. Over the winter and the freezing and thawing of weather, the roads will start to become affected by it. The heavier the traffic is, the more likely there will be potholes on the road. You will want to make sure to swerve and avoid hitting one. At the same time, make sure that you are aware of the traffic and lanes around you. Do not cross into another lane and hit another vehicle or oncoming traffic.

Spring Driving and Avoiding Potholes

Hitting a pothole can do damage to your vehicle. The first thing to check is each tire. The tire will be the most affected when hitting a pothole or curb. The tire could be fine, or there might be slight to severe damage to it. Check the sidewall of the tire to look for any scrapes or bulges. If you ignore any minor issues, they can develop into a larger one with time. Hitting a pothole fast or hard enough can even increase the chance of the tire blowing. If you do have to hit a pothole, make sure to drive at a slow or reduced speed.

Remember to Check the Alignment

The alignment should also be inspected for your vehicle. When you hit a pothole, the tires are affected, and so is the alignment. You might notice signs immediately if the steering wheel is not longer straight when you drive straight ahead. If the steering wheel is not centered, then the tires may benefit from an alignment. Also the suspension of the vehicle should be inspected as well. It can fraction or break the suspension, which could only get worse with time. The best thing to do is to make sure to bring the vehicle in so we can inspect it for you.
