Oil Change

With the improvements in the useful life of today’s semi-synthetic and full synthetic oils, the good news is the recommended time & mileage interval between oil changes has improved.  In addition, the synthetic blend and full synthetic oils provide increased fuel mileage, lower emissions, improved engine protection, and provides for easier engine startups, especially in areas with cold weather.  How does the suggested mileage interval differ from the three different oil change options?  Here is a snapshot: Conventional oil changes are recommended every 3000 to 5000 miles, synthetic blend oil changes are 5000 to 7500 miles, and full synthetic oils have manufacturer-recommended mileage intervals of 7500 to 10000 miles. These intervals can change based on your driving habits, and what level of importance your vehicle plays in your daily demands.

One very important issue that runs parallel with what your vehicles oil change interval is the importance of a vehicle inspection.  Most, if not all reputable automotive service providers, perform an inspection with every oil change. Contrary to popular belief, shops do not do these inspections in an attempt to charge you more money.  The inspections are to keep you safe and possibly save you money!  If, during an inspection, your technician discovers a problem before it becomes more serious, your checkbook and personal safety both win.

The next time you take in your vehicle for an oil change, and the service advisor provides a report with some areas of concern, please understand it is done with your safety as the 1st priority, and your checkbook not far behind.
